How high can a gymnastic score be?

Right now gymnasts are competing in San Jose, California to narrow the USA Olympic team down to just 5 women.  As you watch their performances don’t you wonder how their scores are determined and what the top score could be? (It’s not a 10 anymore!)

Use the video below to see the history of when Nadia Comanici performed the first ever perfect Olympic routine in the 1976 Olympics.

But the scoring has changed dramatically.

Let your students begin to understand the new scoring while they come to grips with what is required now, what a high score is, how to calculate it and what to look for in the 2016 Women’s competition.
